Grand Slam Sends SCR-I Past Raiders in 12-5 Victory
After a scary start, Scotland County turned things around on Tuesday night to knock off North Shelby 12-5 and remain unbeaten in conference play.
Megan Creek blasted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Lady Tigers had three runners gunned down on the base paths to keep the score at 1-0.
North Shelby took advantage of three SCR-I fielding miscues to plate at three unearned runs in the top of the second and pull ahead 3-1.
The scare was short lived, as Bethany Rader crushed a grand slam in the bottom of the frame. A double by Katie Howard plated a fifth run as SCR-I regained the lead 6-3.
Scotland County made it 7-3 in the bottom of the third taking advantage of two North Shelby errors before leaving the bases loaded.
The Lady Raiders trimmed the deficit to 7-4 in the fourth before SCR-I blew the game open with five runs over the next two frames.
Hailey Dial led off the fourth with a triple. She scored on a double by Brieanna Priebe, who scored on a ground out by Olivia Harris.
The lead grew to 12-4 in the fifth inning. Creek reached on an error, followed by a base hit for Randi Slaughter. Both runners scored on a double by Rader, who later crossed the plate on a ground out by Dial.
North Shelby tacked on an unearned run in the seventh to make the final score 12-5.
Creek went seven innings, allowing five runs, one earned, on four hits and one walk. She struck out six. Rader was 3-3 at the plate with a double, home run and six RBIs. Slaughter went 3-3 and Dial was 3-4 as SCR-I knocked out 13 hits.
