Lady Tigers Claim First Conference Championship in 25 Years

Brieanna Priebe gives the huge SCR-I crowd something to cheer about as the Lady Tigers faithful packed the field towatch Scotland County claim it's first softball conference crown in 25 years.

Scotland County seniors Megan Creek and Katie Howard went out in style on Tuesday night in Memphis and the Lady Tigers made history in the process.

The traditional senior night festivities of the regular season finale were made extra-special as SCR-I defeated Schuyler County 4-2 to cap off a perfect conference season and land the Lady Tigers their first Tri-Rivers Conference crown since 1987.

Scotland County fell behind early, as the Lady Rams capitalized on a walk and an error to take a 1-0 lead in the first.

But the largest crowd of the year erupted moments later when SCR-I regained the lead in the bottom of the frame. Creek led off with a double. After Randi Slaughter was hit by a pitch, a base hit by Bethany Rader loaded the bases. Clean-up hitter Hailey Dial delivered a two-run single that made the score 2-1.

Rader doubled in the third but was stranded. SCR-I had two runners on with no outs in the fourth after base hits by Claire Shannan and Olivia Harris, but failed to score.

That allowed Schuyler County to tie the game 2-2 in the fifth. Alexis Boas singled. A courtesy runner stole second base and moved to third on a bunt before crossing the plate on a sacrifice fly.

The Lady Tigers took control of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Slaughter singled but was caught stealing. After a walk to Rader, Dial singled to right field. Schuyler County threw to third trying to get Rader and the throw got away, allowing the run to score. Dial advanced to third on the play and later scored on a base hit by Brieanna Priebe that made it 4-2.

Creek held off scoring threats in both of the final two innings to secure the 4-2 win. She gave eight hits and a walk while striking out three in the victory.

Howard, Rader, Harris and Dial all were 2-3 at the plate in the win.

SCR-I closed out the regular season with a 15-5 record and 5-0 in the TRC.
