Creek Tosses No Hitter in Tourney Opener

After a slow start, Scotland County exploded for 12 runs in a third inning that saw 16 batters sent to the plate en route to a 17-4 victory over Novinger on August 30th in Memphis.
SCR-I jumped on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Megan Creek doubled and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Bethany Rader.
Novinger knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of the second before Rader struck out the side to close out the threat.
Olivia Harris led off the second with a walk. Courtesy runner Karrisa Adams came in to score on a sacrifice by Claire Shannan to make it 2-1.
Novinger again pulled even in the top of the third with an unearned run.
Scotland County blew the game open in the bottom of the frame when the first 10 batters reached base safely.
Creek, Randi Slaughter and Rader all walked to load the bases. Miranda Holland and Harris both reached on errors. Brieanna Priebe cracked a two-run double before a walk to Shannan loaded the bases again. Shaye Wright delivered a two-run double and Katie Howard made the score 10-2 with a double. Creek tripled in her second at bat of the inning to plate Howard. She scored on a ground out by Rader and Holland crossed the plate one more time as Novinger committed a trio of errors that pushed the margin to 14-2.
SCR-I tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Wright reached on an error, Howard tripled in the run. She came into score when Creek clubbed her second home run of the season to make it 17-4.
Another rough night in the field was overshadowed by a dominating performance at the plate. The Lady Tigers committed seven fielding errors, leading to four unearned runs for Novinger.
Junior Bethany Rader evened her record on the season at 1-1, notching the victory in five innings of work. She allowed four unearned runs on just one hit while walking one and striking out eight.
SCR-I improved to 1-2 on the season with the victory.
