Father's Day Tourney Draws 50 Teams to Timber Ridge
The annual Father's Day Golf Tournament at Timber Ridge Golf course drew a combined 50 teams to compete in the two rounds of tournaments held Sunday June 17th at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Memphis.
The morning round saw 29 two-golfer teams take to the course for 18 holes of competition.
Fittingly the event was won by father-son tandem of Dave and Marcus Shalley, who shot a 12-under-par round of 56. The father-son squad of Mark and Mike Drummond finished second with a score of 59 followed by Jake Brewer and Derrick Dicks in third with a 60.
The A flight win went to the team of Zach McBee and Jared Shelley with a score of 66, two-under par. Kris and Kelly Lister won a tie-breaker to finish second with a score of 67. Josh Scobee and Brandon Garnett finished third with a 67.
The B flight was won by Royce Cook and Shane Poe with a score of 70. A birdie on hole #7 was the tie breaker for the team. The team of Bob Newman and Mike Johnson was second with Kasey and Steve Dial finishing third in the tie breaker.
In the C flight it was the team of Brett Brewer and Norm Dicks taking first with a score of 73. Kevin and Tyler Small were second with a 75 and the team of Rottman and Rottman was third with a 76.
In the afternoon round, 21 teams hit the course, with many holdovers from the morning session sticking around to play a total of 36 holes on the day.
Mark Drummond and Dave Shalley teamed up to win the championship flight with a score of 60. The team of Rupe and Bolin was second with a 62 followed by Marcus Shalley and Doug Shalley in third with a 63.
Victory in the A flight went to Kasey Dial and Brandon Garnett with a score of 66. They won the tie breaker with Kevin Fromm and Derek Weber who took second. Third place went to Robbie Miller and Mike Frazier, who won a three-way tie breaker between teams with a score of 67.
In the B flight, it was Kevin Small and Josh Scobee taking top honors with a 71. They won the tie breaker over Andy Mallett and Steve Simpson who finished second. Kaden and Tom James were third with a round of 72.
Kaden James picked up the prize for the longest drive on hole #2. Chris Hunt won the 50/50 contest with the closest shot to the pin on hole #3. Dave Shalley was the prize winner on hole #1 with the drive closest to the 100-yard marker. Doug Shalley claimed a prize with the longest putt on hole #9 while Ryan Robinson made the longest putt of the day on hole #7. Mike Frazier was closest to the pin with the second shot on hole #5 to claim a prize.
The players dodged the much needed rain that fell Saturday, with rain holding off until the final moments of the evening round. Superintendent Stan Prather had the course in excellent playing condition. The tournament was sponsored by the Memphis Democrat newspaper.
