SCR-I Advances to District Semifinals With 10-0 Win Over Salisbury

Scotland County looked like a team with a bit of a chip on its shoulders, opening the district tournament Saturday afternoon with a 10-0 demolition of Salisbury.

The Tigers, who by most accords, were snubbed by the district coaches, earning a number two seed, despite the district's best record, looked like a top seed on Saturday.

Cordie Kigar was dominant on the mound, tossing a two-hit shutout in a contest that ended after six innings courtesy of the 10-run rule.

Scotland County took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Drew Miller and Andrew Mathes singled to start the inning. After a walk to Harley Stone loaded the bases, Ben Shannan and Brice Cowell delivered RBI singles. The third run crossed the plate when Brock Bondurant was hit by a pitch.

SCR-I nearly batted around again in the second inning, adding four more tallies to the scoreboard. Kigar led off with a base hit. Miller reached on an error. Mathes followed with an RBI single, Shannan added an RBI single. Cowell reached on an error that allowed the other two runs to cross the plate.

The Tigers' bats were silenced until the sixth, when the team ended the contest in walk-off fashion. Harley Stone made it 8-0 with a home run. Cowell singled and scored when Jacob Hull reached on an error. Hull scored the 10th and final run on a base hit by Buford to end the contest.

Kigar tossed his second straight shutout. He walked two and struck out 11 over six innings.

The sophomore went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored. Miller was 2-4 with two runs scored. Mathes was 2-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Stone went 2-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Shannan and Cowell also were both 2-4 at the plate as the Tigers mashed 13 hits on the day.

In other district action, top seed Schuyler County defeated Putnam County 9-2. Westran bested Milan 14-12 and South Shelby defeated Knox County 6-2.
