Tigers Look to Tackle Tough District Bracket to Extend Baseball Season
Despite the best record in the bracket including a split against the top seed, the Scotland County baseball team will enter the Class 2 District 8 tournament this weekend as the underdog.
The Tigers were seeded second by the eight-team field of coaches, behind Schuyler County.
SCR-I heads into the final week of the regular season with a 13-1 mark after claiming the conference crown on Monday night.
Tri-Rivers Conference runner up, Schuyler County, got the nod as the top seed, despite splitting the season series with the Tigers, including a loss in the all-important conference game.
The Rams earned the top seed with a 10-2 record. They will take on #8 seed Putnam County at noon on Saturday, May 12th in Shelbina.
The second game of the day will feature #4 seed Milan (7-4) against Westran (6-6) at 2 p.m.
The Tigers will take the field at 4 p.m. versus #7 seeded Salisbury (2-8).
South Shelby (11-2) earned the #3 seed and a first round matchup with #6 Knox County (2-8) at 6 p.m.
The district semifinals will be played Monday, May 14th. The first game is set for 5 p.m. If SCR-I advances past Salisbury, the Tigers would take on the winner of the South Shelby vs. Knox County game, at 7 p.m. on Monday evening.
The district championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16th.
South Shelby High School is hosting the district tournament.
