Tigers Top Competition at Mustang Relays
Scotland County piled on the points Tuesday in Bloomfield, IA, topping the six-team field to take home first place honors from the Mustang Relays.
Logan Payne led the way for the Tigers, earning first place in the 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter runs. Payne won the 1,600 in a time of 5:21. Teammate Joseph Hite was fifth in the race. Payne topped the field in the 3,200 in a time of 11:26. SCR-I's Morgan Carlton was third in the race.
Zach Miller picked up some big points for the Tigers as well. The junior took the checkered flag in the 100-meter dash, sprinting to the finish line in an event-best time of 11.406 seconds. Teammate Tyler Small was second in a time of 11.859 seconds. Miller finished second in the 200-meter dash and was also second in the 400-meter dash, a race that saw his teammate Lucas Howard take fourth.
Howard finished second in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 400-meter low hurdles and was third in the high jump at a height of 5'2".
SCR-I had several other solid performances in the field events. Will Masden dominated the throwing events, earning first place in both the discus and the shot put. His throw of 104'10.5" won the discus event, which saw teammate Monte Sally take third with a throw of 96'11". That was also the case in the shot put where Masden won with a throw of 40'11" while Sally was third at the distance of 38'3".
Other top individual finishes included a second place finish for Tyler Small in the long jump and a fourth place run by Chris Jackson in the 800-meter race.
The Scotland County relay teams finished second in the 4x800, fifth in the 4x200, third in the 1600-meter relay, third in the 4x100 and fourth in the 4x400.
SCR-I picked up 154 points to win the A division team title. Putnam County tied Van Buren for second with 112 points followed by Schuyler County (71), Cardinal (48) and Seymour (34).
