Rams Ruin SCR-I's Shot at Perfection

Cordie Kigar takes the lead off third base as coach Daniel Burns looks on.

A battle of unbeatens on Thursday night in Queen City went the way of the home squad as Schuyler County bested Scotland County 10-6 in a non-conference matchup.

The Rams struck first, capitalizing on an error to score an unearned run in the bottom of the first off starter Harley Stone.

The Tigers were unable to take advantage of some early scoring opportunities against Schuyler's starter, Tad Anderson. SCR-I had base runners in each of the first three innings, and left the bases loaded in the third.

Christien Henderson gave the home team a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when he homered off Stone.

The margin went to 3-0 in the fourth on a solo home run by Schuyler County's Dalton Shively.

The Tigers finally got to Anderson in the top of the fifth. The two-out rally started when Drew Miller was hit by a pitch. He scored on a double by Andrew Mathes before Stone knotted the score at 3-3 with a two-run home run.

Schuyler came right back to regain the advantage in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice before blowing the contest open with five more runs in the sixth as the wheels came off for the Tigers. Henderson made it 5-0 with a two-run homer in the fifth.

The big blow in the sixth inning was a two-run home run by Joey Antal. The Tigers threatened in the top of the seventh as a trio of Schuyler County errors left the door open for a rally. Miller singled in a run and Jacob Hull drove in two with a double but that was as far as the SCR-I comeback would go.

Stone took the loss on the mound for the Tigers, pitching 5 2/3 innings. He gave up 10 runs, six earned, on 10 hits and four walks, while striking out 10. Cordie Kigar recorded the final out in relief. Schuyler County clubbed four home runs on the day.

Drew Miller went 2-3 at the plate with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored. Stone was 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Mathes was 1-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-1 on the year. Schuyler County improved to 6-0.

The two teams will meet again April 18th in the Tri-Rivers Conference game to be played in Memphis.
