Tigers Blast Three Homers En Route to 11-5 Win Over Atlanta

Catcher Drew Miller hit his first home run of the season in the win over Atlanta.

After suffering the first loss of the baseball season, Scotland County got right back on the horse Monday night in Atlanta, blasting the Hornets 11-5 to improve to 8-1 on the season.

The Tigers struck early, jumping on top 2-0 in the top of the first. Cordie Kigar reached on an error. He scored when Harley Stone blasted his second home run of the season.

Scotland County extended the lead to 3-0 in the second frame. Tyler Buford singled with two outs and came in to score on a double by Kigar.

Atlanta pulled ahead in the bottom of the third with a two-out rally of its own that ultimately chased starter Cordie Kigar. Atlanta put four runs on the board as the sophomore walked four in the inning.

The Tigers knotted the score at 4-4 in the fourth when Ben Shannan singled and came in to score on an RBI groundout by Buford.

Stone took over on the mound and shutdown Atlanta over the next two frames.

That allowed SCR-I to pull ahead 6-4 in the fifth inning. Singles by Drew Miller, Andrew Mathes and Stone, loaded the bases for Brice Cowell, who delivered a two-run double.

The Tigers tacked on some insurance in the sixth, crossing the plate four times to extend the lead to 10-4. Kigar singled in front of Miller's first home run of the season. After a Mathes single, Jacob Hull went yard for his first home run of the season.

Atlanta scored an unearned run in the sixth to trim the deficit to 10-5, but SCR-I got it right back in the top of the seventh. Kigar singled and stole second base before coming in to score on a base hit by Miller.

Ben Shannan came on in relief in the seventh and struck out the side to preserve the 11-5 win.

Stone picked up the victory on the mound in relief of Kigar. Kigar allowed four runs on five hits and four walks while striking out five in three innings of work. Stone allowed one unearned run in three innings of work. He walked three and gave up four hits while striking out three. Shannan walked one and struck out three in his one inning of work.

The Tigers offense carried the day. Kigar was 3-5 with a double and three runs scored. Drew Miller went 3-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Stone was 2-4 with a homer and two RBI while Mathes went 2-5 with two runs scored.
