Tigers Remain Unbeaten With 6-0 Win Over Knox County
Scotland County jumped ahead of Knox County 1-0 in the top of the first inning and that proved to be all the scoring the Tigers would need as Ben Shannan tossed a three-hit shutout on Monday night in Edina to keep the Tigers unbeaten on the season.
SCR-I topped the Eagles 6-0 on the scoreboard to improve to 7-0 on the season.
The Tigers took the 1-0 lead courtesy of a leadoff single by Cordie Kigar. He stole second base and eventually came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Mathes.
That duo accounted for another run in the second inning. Kigar doubled and scored on an RBI single by Mathes to make it 2-0.
Harley Stone throws out the Knox County hitter at first base.
Scotland County blew the game open in the fourth inning. Drew Miller singled and stole second base. After a walk to Harley Stone, Knox County tried to pick Miller off at second base. The throw hit the corner of the base and caromed into right field, allowing Miller to come all the way around to score. Stone crossed the plate when Mathes reached on an error to push the lead to 4-0. After a single by Chris Jackson and a walk by Jacob Blessing loaded the bases, Shannan knocked in two more runs with a base hit up the middle to make the score 6-0.
That was all the support Shannan would need. Knox County never mounted a scoring threat in the game as Shannan held the team to just five base runners. The senior hurler allowed three hits and a walk, while striking out eight. SCR-I committed just one error on the day.
Kigar had a pair of hits and two runs scored at the top of the lineup. Mathes and Shannan each had a pair of RBIs on the day to pace the offense.
Knox County fell to 2-6 on the season with the loss.
