Boys Track Team Gets Season Off to Fast Start With Win at Edina
Scotland County got out of the starting blocks quickly as the 2012 boys track season started with a victory at the Knox County Invitational held in Edina on March 27th.
Speedster Zach Miller led the way with three first place finishes. He won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.50 seconds. Tyler Small was fourth overall in the event.
Miller followed that up with a victory in the 200-meter dash, with Small taking third place.
Zach closed out the sprints with a first place finish in the 400-meter dash.
The team had three points recipients in the 800-meter run. Chris Jackson took fourth followed by Joseph Hite in fifth and Justin Girardin in seventh.
In the distance events, Logan Payne earned second place in the 1,600 meter run with Hite finishing fifth. Payne also took second in the 3,200 meter run.
Lucas Howard finished second in the 300-meter hurdles.
The Tigers relay teams finished third in the 4x100, first in the 4x200, and first in the 4x800.
Scotland County also had a strong showing in the field events. Monte Sally was tops in the discus with a throw of 108'03". Teammate Will Masden was second.
Masden won the shot put with a toss of 41'04". Michael Yarbrough was fifth.
Howard won the triple jump, covering 36'11". He also took second place in the high jump, clearing 5'8".
Tyler Small took third place in the long jump at a distance of 16'10".
Teams from Marion County, Canton, Highland, Novinger, Green City and Knox County competed in the event.
