Second Half Rally Leads Schuyler County Past SCR-I
The Tigers saw a key conference contest slip away in the second half as Schuyler County rallied for a 51-47 victory in Memphis on January 24th.
The Rams opened a 8-6 lead in the first period as Scotland County struggled to get the offense rolling.
The Tigers appeared to turn the corner in the second period, as Jacob Blessing and Cordie Kigar hit three pointers. Harley Stone poured in six points as SCR-I used a 17-12 run to take a 23-20 lead at the intermission.
But the shooting woes returned in the third quarter. The perimeter shooting went cold for the Tigers, who managed only three field goals, including two buckets in the paint by center Andrew Mathes. That allowed Schuyler County to take a 34-31 lead heading into the final period.
Scotland County got the offense restarted down the stretch, as Kigar put in seven points and Mathes continued his strong play in the paint with five points. But Schuyler County managed to make just enough free throws to hang on for the 51-47 win. The Rams connected on six of 13 shots from the charity stripe in the final eight minutes to preserve the win.
Kigar finished with 14 points to lead the Tigers in scoring. Stone added 11 points and Mathes had nine points for Scotland County, which fell to 7-9 on the year and 3-2 in the Tri-Rivers Conference.
The Rams (4-9, 3-2 TRC), were led in scoring by Christien Henderson with 18 points and Jordon Wheeler with 13 points.
