Twenty-Point Lead Evaporates as La Plata Rallies to Beat SCR-I in Overtime

Scotland County had the fourth ranked team in the state on the ropes late in the fourth period of the third place game at the North Shelby Tourney only to see a 20-point lead evaporate in the game's final six minutes before La Plata rallied for a 70-62 overtime victory.

The Bulldogs erased a 44-24 deficit with a 30-point fourth period to send the contest into overtime.

SCR-I opened up a 17-11 lead behind Jacob Blessing. The freshman, in his first varsity start, drilled a pair of three pointers in the opening frame.

Cordie Kigar came off the bench to hit three from long range in the first half, helping SCR-I lead 30-22 at the intermission.

Harley Stone converted a three-point play and also added three from long range as the Tigers outscored LaPlata 12-4 in the third period to take charge of the contest.

But the Tigers long-range shooting cooled off down the stretch. La Plata took advantage of 30 SCR-I turnovers in the contest. Peyton Swift scored 15 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth period as his team battled back to tie the score at 54-54 and force overtime.

Foul trouble hampered the Tigers as Kigar, Stone and Brice Cowell all fouled out on the night.

The Bulldogs took advantage of the shorthanded SCR-I squad in overtime, outscoring the Tigers 16-6 in the extra time to post the 70-62 win.

Stone and Kigar each finished with 13 points to lead the Tigers (7-8) in scoring. Andrew Mathes and Lucas Howard finished with 11 points each.
