Tigers' Run Past Brashear 68-35 Behind Fast Break Attack

Jacob Blessing

Even with just two reserves on the bench, Monday night was no time for Coach Lance Campbell to put on the brakes. His Tigers used s relentless fast break to run Brashear out of the Memphis gym, pouring 68 points en route to a 33-point victory.

The Tigers used a big advantage on the offensive glass to build an early lead. Andrew Mathes scored on a pair of offensive rebounds to get his team rolling. After Brice Cowell converted a drive to the basket, Harley Stone put in four points to make the score 10-4 and force a Brashear timeout.

Drew Miller

Drew Miller connected on a jumper before Jacob Blessing scored on the fast break to make it 14-6 after one period of play. The transitions core was a sign of what was to come, as the Tigers would unleash the fast break on Brashear the final three periods.

But early in the second period, it was perimeter shooting that helped the Tigers pad their lead. Cordie Kigar knocked down a pair of three pointers and Drew Miller connected on two jumpers. Kigar's long two pointer made it 26-10 with 4:21 left in the second period, forcing another Brashear timeout.

Stone took over from there. The senior scored on a nifty reverse layup and followed that with a pair of free throws before knocking down a jumper. Mathes scored on an offensive rebound and Blessing again was on the end of the fast break. His hoop made it 38-13 at the intermission.

The Tigers' running game was on full display in the third quarter. Cowell had three field goals in the transition game and Kigar and D. Miller also scored on the fast break as SCR-I pushed the lead to 53-22 to force a running clock in the final eight minutes of play.

Andrew Mathes

Stone and Mathes each added a pair of field goals in the fourth period as SCR-I rode a balanced scoring attack to the big win.

Mathes and Stone finished with 14 points each to help the Tigers improve to 6-5 on the season. Kigar added 13 points and Cowell had 10 points. D. Miller and Blessing each pitched in with eight points.
