Junior High Girls Gain Valuable Experience During Basketball Season

The seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams experienced a season of highs and lows as the two squads were combined for an A and B team facing the standard seventh and eighth grade teams for competition.
The B team dropped its opener at Clark County by a final score of 30-0.
The A team lost to Clark County 26-22. Seventh graders Chelsea Wood and Calesse Bair each had seven points to lead the scoring.
The following evening the B team was in action in Memphis taking on the Clark County seventh graders. The Tigers lost the game 37-8. Mikenzie Beckley had four points and Samantha Talbert and Grace Garrett had the other field goals for SCR-I.
The A team was in action that night on the road in Canton, falling to the Tigers 35-22. Wood led the team in scoring with eight points.
Both squads were back in action at home on November 7th versus Schuyler County. The B team lost 14-12 despite eight points from Beckley. The A team fell to 0-3 on the year with a 25-20 loss. Abi Feeney paced the scoring attack with eight points and Wood added six points.
The A team loss a hard-fought contest the following night in Memphis as the Clark County eighth graders escaped with a 27-23 victory despite 13 points by Wood.
Both teams traveled to Unionville on November 11th. The B team fell to the seventh graders 21-18. Beckley led the scoring attack with 13 points. The A team lost 26-25 on a last second three pointer to fall to 0-5 on the year. Wood finished with 11 points and Anna Monroe had six points for the Lady Tigers.

The A team finally turned things around the following week at the Putnam County Tournament.
The Lady Tigers mashed Milan 38-10 in the tourney opener behind 14 points from Wood and six points from Sophia Hoskinson and Bair.
The team won a shootout the next night, beating the host Midgets 43-39 to advance to the title game. Feeney and Bair each had 12 points and Cassie Bulen finished with seven points in the win.
SCR-I brought home the tourney championship with a 23-17 victory against Schuyler County. Wood had nine points and Bulen added four points down the stretch to help secure the victory.
The B team took part in the Schuyler County tourney that week. The Lady Tigers lost to Schuyler County 17-15. Beckley led the scoring with nine points and Sadie Davis had five points. Kyndal Miller also added a field goal.
The Lady Tigers lost to Milan 26-19 despite a season-high 16 points from Beckley. Ariel Quenneville had four points and Madison Mallett added two points.
The host team closed out the tourney with a 32-17 win over SCR-I. Megan Kice led SCR-I in scoring with six points.
Both teams were on the road to take on North Shelby on November 21st. The B team fell to the Raiders 30-13. Quenneville led the team in scoring with four points.
The A team continued its season turn around, winning its fourth straight with a 23-19 victory in overtime. Maddie Brassfield had a key field goal in the overtime and finished with six points.
The B team traveled to Knox County on November 29th to take on the Knox County seventh graders. The team picked up its first win of the year by a 17-14 margin. Bair had seven points and Wood finished with six points.
The A team traveled to Edina on December 1st and knocked off the Eagles' eighth graders 33-25 behind 11 points from Bair, eight points from Wood and four points from Miranda Holland.
Both squads traveled to Queen City the following night to play the Rams. The B team bested the Schuyler County seventh graders 17-14. Beckley led the team with eight points. The A team bested the Rams eighth graders 21-11 behind 10 points by Wood and five points from Hoskinson.
The B team defeated the Canton seventh graders 32-12 on December 5th for their third straight victory. Beckley led the scoring with 10 points and Brassfield had six points. Rebekah Duzan also added to the scoring attack.
The B team took on the Kirksville seventh graders in Memphis on December 9th. The visitors prevailed 35-28. Wood led the scoring attack with 13 points and Bair finished with seven.
The B team ended the year with a 3-10 record in seventh grade action.
The A team made it seven straight wins with a 24-15 win over the Knox County eighth graders in the opening round of the Schuyler County Tourney. Wood led the team in scoring with 10 points and Bair added eight points.
The team was knocked off 44-28 by Kirksville in the semi finals, in a game that saw them leading 9-6 before Kirksville went on a 15-0 second quarter run. Wood was tops in scoring with nine points and Hoskinson added six points.
Putnam County avenged an earlier lost, rallying to beat SCR-I 26-19 in the season finale, to end the Lady Tigers' season with a 7-7 record.
