Imogene Wineinger, age 92, died peacefully on October 28, 2012 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri where she had been a resident since 2007.
The daughter of Aubrey Guy and Frances Pauline (Dabney) Jarvis, she was born on the family farm north of Downing, Missouri on December 27, 1919. She was named Zella Imogene Jarvis and has always been called by her middle name.
Imogene attended the Jaybird-Darby school in Schuyler County and graduated from the eighth grade. As a teenager, she left home to live with and take care of an aunt who was in failing health.
On October 15, 1938 in Schuyler County, Missouri at the age of 20, Imogene was united in marriage to Chalmer Virn "Red" Wineinger by the Reverend Thurman Andrews. Imogene faithfully followed Red and set up housekeeping in several homes, moving many times over the course of their 47 years of marriage. Red and Imogene had one cherished daughter, Helen Jean.
Imogene was a wonderful homemaker. She always had a garden, canning large quantities of fruits and vegetables. She loved growing beautiful flowers and always had many colors surrounding her home. Imogene was quite the seamstress. She made all of her own clothes, quilted, crocheted and made jewelry. She never had idle hands, keeping busy doing crafts or baking a cake or pie for someone. She was active in the Downing Chit Chat Club and the Downing Appreciation Days while she was living in the Downing Senior Housing for 21 years.
Red and Imogene were baptized together at the Pulaski United Methodist Church in Pulaski, Iowa.
