OMA GRACE (WEST) CORDER

Oma Grace (West) Corder, 87 of Knoxville, Iowa formerly of Lancaster, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Locust Hill Elder Group Home in Knoxville, Iowa.
Oma was born on March 24, 1925 in Coatsville, Missouri to Edwin E. and Ollie Belle (Hayes) West. She was united in marriage to Robert (Bob) Francis Corder on February 14, 1946 in Shenandoah, Iowa and to this union two daughters were born, Susan and Sandra.
Surviving are Oma's daughter, Susan Miller and friend, Rex Brooker of Knoxville, Iowa; a granddaughter, Michelle Heston and husband, Chad (Thad) Yonker of Overland Park, Kansas; sisters, Ida Mae Foster of Etowah, Tennessee and Edith Snyder and husband, Dick of Queen City, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Harold (Junior) Corder and wife, Dee of Fort Lupton, Colorado; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane West of Ottumwa, Iowa and Ina Faye West of Unionville, Missouri; many nieces, nephews and other family members.
Preceding Oma in death were her parents; husband; and one daughter, Sandra Vincent; five brothers, Delno West, Orin West, Woodrow West, Aubrey West and Darwin West and two sisters, Alma Staton and Thelma Clinkenbeard.
Oma was a member of the Schuyler County Church of Faith in Lancaster, Missouri and was also a member of the DAR. She was a retired beautician.
All of her life, she enjoyed being a musician and was proud of her family band "The Corder Family". In 1940, Oma and her sister, Ida Mae performed at KFEQ in St. Joseph, Missouri and then at KMA in Shenandoah, Iowa. Oma was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in Avoca, Iowa and the Drakesville, Iowa Bluegrass Festival Hall of Fame. Oma loved being outdoors fishing, camping or looking for arrowheads. She enjoyed visiting her home place in Coal Holler on the Chariton River and vacationing in Branson, Missouri.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith officiating. Music was congregational singing of "In The Garden" and "Farther Along" provided by organist, Maureen Watkins. Pallbearers were Carl Gower, Ron Whitacre, Mark Smith, Rick Vincent, James West and Linn West.
Memorials have been established for the family. Burial will be in the Rose Cemetery in Martinstown, Missouri.
