HARRY RICHARD SNYDER

Harry Snyder, age 82, of Rocheport, formerly of Clarence passed away Monday, May 7, 2012 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.
He was born October 1, 1929 in Brookfield, the son of Harry and Louella Madison Snyder. On August 16, 1959, he was united in marriage to Alice Tague at Gorin, MO. She survives.
Harry is also survived by his three children, Leslie Snyder and wife Cathan of Clovis, NM, Lesa Meinze and husband Ben of Kingwood, WV, and Bryan Snyder and wife Mary of Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren, Todd and Timothy Snyder of Minneapolis, MN, Shaun Lundberg of Valparaiso, IN, Brant Lundberg of Kingwood, WV, Bridget Gallup and Jamie Stoops of Columbia, MO; three great-grandchildren, Jaden Gallup, Sophie and Harper Stoops; and brother, Charles Snyder and wife Darla of Bucklin, MO, and sister Carolyn Montgomery of Independence, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harry graduated from Clarence High School in 1947. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. Harry returned home to attend Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville. After marrying Alice they settled in northern Iowa where he worked as a guidance counselor and teacher for several years before moving to Edwardsville, IL. His interest in standardized testing led to jobs with the West Virginia Department of Education in Charleston, WV and publisher Harcourt Brace & Jovanovich in New York City. Eventually he moved back to Columbia where he worked for the University of Missouri Center for Educational Assessment. Following his retirement he became a master pewter smith and operated Village Pewter in Rocheport. He was an active member of the Ancient, Free Accepted Masons, the Rocheport Christian Church, and the Friends of Rocheport.
Services were held May 11, 2012, at Jacksonville Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville and interment followed. Memorial gifts may be made to Rocheport Christian Church, Second Street, Rocheport, MO 65279.
