BASIL DEAN HUNT

Basil Dean Hunt of St. Louis, MO passed away at the Kirksville Manor Care Facility on March 5, 2012.
Basil was born on May 2, 1931 in Unionville, MO, the son of the late Roscoe Basil Hunt and Emma Irene Hunt of Newtown, MO.
The early part of his youth was spent in Unionville and after a family move; he graduated from Newtown high school in 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served with distinction until his discharge and subsequent enrollment at Northeast Missouri State Teacher's College (Truman State University).
While a student he met and married the love of his life, Patricia Roberts, and they then moved to the St. Louis area where he began a distinguished career as an educator, eventually receiving Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Basil served children and families for more than 30 years as both teacher and administrator before retiring as Director of Elementary Education for the Normandy School District.
A longtime community leader, he also rose to become national president of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity and subsequently the Sigma Tau Gamma Foundation; in 1980 he was honored by the organization with induction as a charter member of its highest order, The Society of the Seventeen.
Basil is survived by his wife Patricia (Roberts) Hunt of St. Louis and his beloved daughter Kimberly Kay Hunt of Fort Worth, TX as well as brothers Donald (Carol) Hunt of Newtown, MO, Ronald (Cherl) Hunt of Princeton, MO, sister Melanie Hunt Finley (David) of Stet, MO and sister-in-law Maureen Hunt of Cedar Rapids, IA together with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and fraternity brothers around the globe.
A visitation was conducted at the Norman Funeral Home, Lancaster, MO on Saturday morning, March 10th, with a memorial service and internment thereafter.
