MARY E. MARQUETTE

Mary E. Marquette, 90, of Memphis, Missouri passed away Wednesday evening, February 15, 2012, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis. The daughter of William and Carrie Etta Baker Schuck, she was born July 14, 1921 in Scotland County, Missouri.
Mary grew up in Scotland County, around the area of what is known Brock community and graduated from the Memphis High School in 1941. After graduating she attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College now known as Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri with a teaching degree.
One of her first jobs was to teach in rural schools. On October 13, 1946 she married Kenneth Hardin Marquette in Memphis, Missouri and to this union two sons were born, Kenneth Neil and Stanley Dwayne. They moved to Newark, Missouri for a short time. In 1951 Kenneth, Mary and their family moved to her parents farm north of Brock. She continued to teach in rural schools and the Scotland County R-I school system. Later she worked for the Division of Family Services as a case worker from 1962 to 1982 before retiring. She continued to live on the farm until 2008, when because of her health, she moved in the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.
She loved to work outside tending to her yard, flowers and garden as well as study birds and other wildlife that lived on their farm. She liked to cook, especially baking desserts and other baked goods. In her spare time she liked reading novels and watching TV with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth, one son, Stanley Dwayne in March of 2009; three sisters, Myrtle Speagh, Eleanor Koontz and Margaret Krogmeier; and brother, Milton Schuck.
Surviving relatives include one son, Kenneth Neil Marquette of Ottumwa, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Brock Cemetery Association and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.
Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Inurnment followed in the Brock Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
