EARL D. KAPFER
(3/25/1930 - 1/4/2012)
Earl D. Kapfer, 81, of Memphis, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012, in the Scotland County Care Center.
He was born on March 25, 1930, in Greensburg, MO, the son of Herbert and Abbie (Rice) Kapfer.
Earl married the former Roberta Donaldson in May 1951. She preceded him in death August 1953.
Earl then married the former Roberta (Roberts) Martin in December 1955. She preceded him in death in 2001.
He was in the United States Army from 1955-57 and then in the reserves until 1961, serving in the medical corps.
Earl was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, and a daughter-in-law, Beverly Martin.
He is survived by his children, Carl and wife Nancy Kapfer of Memphis, Rhonda Tarr of Edina, and Ricky Martin and special friend Lisa Marie Ballew of Lancaster; a brother, Max Kapfer of Memphis; sister-in-law Avis Kapfer of Boone, Iowa; grandchildren, Zach Kapfer of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Rebekah Kapfer of Memphis, Kari Morgenstern of Kirksville, Kami and husband Larry Hubbard of Edina, Melissa Burgess of Edina, Jeff Martin of Wyaconda, Weston Martin of Kansas City, and Kirby Banks of Kirksville; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a special friend, Virginia Egbert of Downing.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7, 2012 at the Gerth Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Jack Sumption, pastor of the Memphis First Christian Church, officiating. Taped music selections of "First Thing Every Morning," "You Are My Sunshine," and "Where No One Stands Alone" were played. Pallbearers were Zach Kapfer, Jeff Martin, Brian Crowl, Joel Kapfer, Weston Martin, and Charles Donaldson.
Burial was in the Greensburg Cemetery with gravesite military rites performed by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial V.F.W. Post #4958 of Memphis.
Memorials are suggested to the Greensburg Cemetery and can be left at or mailed to the Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.
