Zumbathon Raises $1,700 for Scotland County Cancer Fund



Zumba instructors Laurie Ward and Sandra Swearingen present a check to Margret Curry, director of the Scotland County Cancer Fund. A recent Zumbathon headed up by Ward, Swearingen and P.J. Parker, raised more than $1,700 for the local charity.


A day focused on the health of the participants paid huge dividends for the wellbeing of current and future Cancer patients.

The Zumba instructors at the Scotland County Fitness Center joined forces to host a one day Zumbathon charity event on Saturday, November 3rd at the Rec Plex to raise funds for the Scotland County Cancer Fund.

Guest instructors Jessie Pinson and Brenda Ellis joined Laurie Ward, Sandra Swearingen and P.J. Parker center stage to lead the packed house in a day of exercising. Participants gathered pledges and donations that helped raise more than $1,700 for the Scotland County Cancer Fund.

Zumba with Laurie Ward, PJ Parker and Sandra Swearingen continues to offer fitness classes throughout the week at the Scotland County Fitness Center. Sessions currently are held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 5:30-6:30 a.m.; Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; and Saturday mornings from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
