October 30th Open House to Showcase Scotland County Hospital's New Facilities
Scotland County Hospital in Memphis will hold an Open House on Tuesday, October 30th from 3 - 7 p.m. to celebrate their recent expansion and renovation project. Tours of the new areas will start at 3 p.m. with a break at 5 p.m. for a brief program in the Library and resume until 7 p.m. There will be refreshments and a commemorative gift for attendees.
There are three main parking lots at the hospital and there will be greeters at each entrance to direct attendees. The tours begin at the South/Main Entrance and parking for that entrance is located in Parking Lot C (off Watkins Street). There is additional parking at the North Entrance in Parking Lot A (off Sigler Avenue).
The hospital's expansion and renovation is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It is a five phase project that was funded through a $9 million low interest loan and $1 million grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development's Community Facilities Program.
Phases I - IV added 18,926 square feet of new building additions and 13,468 square feet of renovated space. Phase V added 7,300 new square footage, which houses the new Library Conference Center.
Phase I provided two new modern and energy efficient boilers that replaced the existing old and failing hospital boiler system. Additionally, Phase I provided for a new emergency department with triage, ER bays, and trauma rooms with support space, new main entrance, drive under canopy, central reception/admitting and registration areas. There is new parking and a circle drive located at the South/Main entrance. A designated helipad and site utilities were also included in Phase I.
Phase II provided for a new out-patient and in-patient surgery center with a separate entrance. This includes a new major operating room, endoscopy minor room, stage I and stage II recovery, new central sterile supply, support and storage. This area is attached to the existing Women's Center for operating room access to the existing c-section surgery suite.
Phase III provided a new nursing unit of 20 beds. The new & renovated patient rooms include handicapped toilets and showers in each room. Two of the new patient rooms are set up for critical care, two more for isolation and two rooms for meeting the needs of the obese patient. A new nursing station includes a medicine room and dictation area. Additionally, SCH now provides dedicated space for I.V. infusion and oncology therapy rooms, physician's on-call area, family waiting area, chapel and an additional Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) room for the Women's Center.
Phase IV is the renovation of the former surgery space into a consolidated radiology imaging suite. The remainder of the old surgery holding area and imaging space is currently being renovated to be a new outpatient service center with a waiting area, consultation rooms, non-invasive cardiology testing and cardiopulmonary.
Phase V is the Library Conference Center. This area has already received extensive use with in-house training as well as community education classes which are currently taking place. An addition to Memphis Medical Services, medical records and administration also occupy this Phase V project.
Please plan to attend the October 30th Open House at Scotland County Hospital and tour these new facilities and meet the doctors and staff that are eager & able to care for you when you need them.
