County, MoDOT Join Forces to Eliminate Narrow Bridge

County crews joined forces with MoDOT this week to help replace a narrow bridge on Highway 15 south of Memphis.

A traffic funnel on Highway 15 has been reduced to a stop this week, with better things to come courtesy of a joint effort between the Scotland County Road and Bridge Department and the Missouri Department of Transportation.

MO 15 closed to traffic approximately mile south of US 136 at Memphis on Monday, September 17th to replace the current narrow concrete box culvert near the Scotland County Fairgrounds.

While wide-enough for two-lane traffic, the bridge width was less than comfortable for most motorists meeting oncoming traffic.

MoDOT crews were joined by the county's track hoe crew to remove the existing bridge decking and under structure. The county's crane will be used to help install the new 10-foot sections of road tube, which will replace the bridge.

The old box culvert is being replaced with a new, wider culvert pipe which will accommodate two 11 ft. traffic lanes. The work should take approximately 5 working days to complete according to MoDOT.

County Road Bridge Boss Mark Drummond stated the project is a good, cooperative effort between the two entities.

"With tax revenues lagging, we better learn to work together like this whenever possible to get as many improvements done as possible," Drummond said.

Road closure signs are in place, notifying motorists of the work and a detour that is available over Routes M and MM.
