Brookhart Named OATS Volunteer of the Year
In celebration of National Volunteer Week (April 15 - 21), the OATS Scotland County Support Committee selected Pattie Brookhart of Memphis as the group's Volunteer of the Year.
Pattie Ann Brookhart lives in Memphis with her husband, Herbert. They are the parents of a daughter who lives in Indiana. Her hobbies are sewing and crafts, putting puzzles together and word search books. Pattie became involved with OATS in 2006 after an accident left them without a car. She has been involved with OATS ever since and is currently serving the Scotland County OATS Support Committee as a contact for Memphis. OATS is one of the greatest things that ever happened as it allows people who no longer drive to be able to get out and do their shopping, doctors appointments, and just being out with other people. Mashed potatoes and green bean casserole are her favorite foods and Wheel of Fortune is her favorite TV show.
With over 10,300 volunteer hours reported in the past fiscal year by volunteers in OATS' 16-county Northeast Region, there are few organizations that have more reason to celebrate National Volunteer Week than OATS, Inc. In most of the counties OATS serves, there are between eight to twenty-four volunteers, mostly riders, who help OATS continue to provide a level of service far beyond what their funding might allow. Since 1971, OATS has continued to rely on these volunteers for fund raising, scheduling and publicity. The dollar value assessed for volunteer hours in the 2011 fiscal year was an impressive $152,583.
Pattie joins honorees from the other 86 counties in OATS' service area representing the entire OATS volunteer network of over 1,200. Among other duties, volunteers plan local bus schedules, dispatch rural service, serve as committee members and on the Board of Directors, and raise money toward the cost of each new vehicle.
OATS is a not-for-profit corporation that relies heavily on volunteers from within their communities. If you would like to get involved in OATS, please contact the Northeast Regional Office at 401 W. Elm, Shelbina, MO 63468; 573.588.2103 or visit their website (www.oatstransit.org).
