She then taught in schools in Scotland County. In 1964, she and her colleague, Effye Irving, moved to Hazelwood, Missouri, where she taught junior high school for two years.
In July of 1966, she and former high school classmate Chris Graf were married and Josephine moved to the suburban Chicago area. Chris passed away in 1985, and Josephine remained in Chicago until 1996, when she moved to Lake St. Charles Retirement Home.
