Four Hurt as ATVs Crash in Washed Out Section of Road
A pair of all-terrain vehicles was involved in a traffic accident in rural Clark County on Saturday evening resulting in injuries to four area individuals. The accident occurred at 10:15 p.m. on County Road 32, six miles north of Luray.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Gavin C. Hauk, 22, was driving a 2007 Honda 400 ATV and Christopher C. Holt, 24, was driving a 2008 Polaris utility vehicle southbound on a closed county road, when the vehicles ran off a washed out section of the roadway and struck an embankment. Both drivers, as well as a passenger in each ATV, were ejected in the crash.
Hauk suffered moderate injuries and was transported to University Hospital in Columbia. A passenger in his ATV, Courtney R. Altum, 22, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Holt sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. A passenger in his ATV, Courtney S. Ryan, 35, of Bloomfield, IA, sustained serious injuries. She was transported to University Hospital.
The Highway Patrol was assisted at the accident scene by the Clark County and Scotland County sheriff's offices, the Memphis Police Department, Clark County and Scotland County ambulance services, first responders and the Clark County Rescue Squad.
Holt was ticketed for DWI - prior offender, and felony assault in the second degree. Hauk was ticketed for driving while intoxicated.
