Campus Bowl Team Advances to State Playoffs
A back-and-forth three game match on Wednesday night in Memphis finally swung the way of the home team as Scotland County rallied to beat Paris and advance to the elite eight of the Missouri Scholar Bowl competition next week.
SCR-I jumped on top with a 320-200 victory in the first game. But Paris rallied to knot the series at 1-1, with a 310-210 win. Scotland County advanced with a 220-150 win in the final game.
Joshua Keller led Scotland County in scoring, accounting for a total of 320 points. Chris Smeltser contributed 100 points and Morgan Carlton added 90 points. Also contributing to the wins were Leah Terrill, Emily Ebeling and Brandon Monroe.
The team is coached by Billie Lanham and Carol McCabe.
The Tigers beat Knox County and South Shelby to claim the Class 2 District 6 title. Paris (18-6), claimed the District 5 crown with wins over Elsberry and Louisiana.
Scotland County (11-2), advances to play Linn County (7-3). The District 8 champions beat Fayette 2-0 to advance to the elite eight.
In the other three contests, Twin Rivers (7-4) will take on Richland (63-13). Fordland (43-15) will play College Heights (43-1) and Barstow (16-5) will do battle with West Platte (12-0).
The quarterfinal games will get underway at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 4th. The final four will play in the semifinals at 2 p.m. with the state championship game scheduled for 3 p.m. All state playoff games will be played at the Memorial Union building on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia.
