Vending Machine Bandit Sentenced to 42 Days in Jail

A Kansas City man entered a plea agreement on February 2nd ending a year-long saga involving a number of thefts from area vending machines.

Judge Kristie Swain issued a judgment of conviction in the Scotland County Circuit Court following the guilty pleas offered by Oren G. Gamble, Sr., on two counts of Class A misdemeanor stealing.

Gamble was arrested by the Memphis Police Department on January 16, 2011 in Memphis and charged with the theft of $550 in cash from a Pepsi vending machine located at MFA Oil on Highway 136 in Memphis as well as the theft of less than $500 from a Pepsi vending machine located at Martin Auto on Highway 136.

As part of a plea agreement negotiated by prosecuting attorney Kimberly Nicoli, and Gamble's attorney, Mark Jones, Count I was amended from felony stealing to class A misdemeanor stealing.

As part of the arrangement, Gamble agreed to serve 42 days in the county jail on each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently. He was awarded credit for two days served. He was scheduled to surrender to the Adair County Detention Center on February 6th to begin serving his sentence.

As part of the agreement, Gamble was ordered to pay the jail board bill as well as $10 CVCJ and $104.50 in court costs.

In a related case, Judge Karl DeMarce granted Gamble a Suspended Imposition of Sentence on a Class A misdemeanor stealing charge, stemming from thefts from Pepsi vending machines at MFA Oil, Martin Auto and K & M Turbo Wash from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010 that resulted in the loss of $1765.19.

Gamble was placed on two year's supervised probation with special conditions that prevent him from possessing any vending machine keys, and prevent any contact with his alleged accomplice in the theft ring, Vernon Gibson, of Kansas City.

Gamble was also ordered to pay $1,765.19 in restitution to Pepsi Cola Memphis Bottling Company.

Gibson is scheduled to appear before Judge Rick Roberts in Clark County for a bench trial on March 1st on the class C felony and Class A misdemeanor stealing charges stemming from the duo's arrest in Memphis on January 16, 2011.
