Azen Area Residence Damaged By Fire
A late-night fire at a rural Scotland County residence caused moderate damage to a mobile home on Saturday, January 21st.
The Scotland County Fire Department was dispatched to the Matthew High property on County Road 761 near Azen at 9:56 p.m.
First responders found the home filled with smoke, but the blaze was controlled to the flooring. The fire apparently originated from an exterior wood-burning furnace, which was connected to venting under the mobile home flooring.
The blaze was quickly extinguished, with moderate damage to the floor and one wall of the home. The bulk of the contents of the home were spared fire damage but did sustain smoke damage.
Approximately two dozen members of the volunteer fire department responded to the emergency, with six fire trucks on the scene for approximately two hours.
