Downing Man Hurt in Crash in Schuyler County
A Downing man sustained minor injuries in a one vehicle accident in Schuyler County early Saturday morning that resulted in serious injuries to a passenger in the vehicle.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Zachary R. Anderson, 18, of Downing, was eastbound on Route E, 2 1/2 miles east of Queen City, when he lost control of the 1998 Dodge he was driving. The truck went off the right side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway and overturned.
A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Megan M. Rigdon, of Queen City, sustained serious injuries in the crash. She was transported by Schuyler County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville and then was taken by Air Evac helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia.
Anderson was transported by private vehicle to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville for treatment of minor injuries.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the ambulance service.
The crash occurred at 1:25 a.m. on January 14. The vehicle sustained total damage and was to be removed from the scene by the owner.
Anderson was arrested at 2:35 a.m. and ticketed for felony assault in the second degree, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated resulting in injury; failure to drive on right half of roadway resulting in an accident; and consuming alcohol while a vehicle is in motion. Rigdon was ticketed as a minor in possession of alcohol (visibly intoxicated).
