7th Grade Boys Come Up Just Shy of Perfect Season

Aaron Buford puts up the shot over the Kirksville defenders.

Much like the eighth grade team, the seventh graders saw a successful season end with a loss to Kirksville. This was not to take away from a great season for the Tigers, losing just one game.

The Tigers started the year off on the right foot with a 40-31 defeat of the Clark County Indians. Elijah Cooley led the Tigers attack with 11 points while Ian See added 10.

Seven days later, the two teams would meet again, this time with an 18-17, narrow win for the Tigers. Aaron Buford provided 13 of the 18 Tiger points. Caleb Manchester, Riley Kliethermes, and Griffan Kerkmann all played solid defense in the second half to hold off Clark from a comeback win.

Knox County was the next opponent to catch the claws of SC as the Tigers rolled in a 32-19 victory. Buford led the way with 14 points. Grant Campbell added six, and Ryan Slaughter, Aaron Blessing, and Ian See each added four.

Scotland then defeated Putnam 23-17 with Aaron Buford amassing 18 points. Alex Hunolt added a pivotal fourth quarter bucket. Chase Cook and Will Pickerell came off the bench in the fourth quarter to contribute with great defense to help shut down the Midgets.

Aaron Buford and Ryan Slaughter were hot in a November 14th win over Schuyler County in the Schuyler Tourney. Buford exploded for 21 and Slaughter added 15 points as the Tigers weathered a fourth quarter comeback effort by the Rams to win 42-35.

If Knox caught the Tigers' claws earlier in the year, then Milan got the teeth in a 41-7, Tiger blowout win. Buford poured in 18 points. Kliethermes, Manchester, and Hunolt each had a bucket in the first quarter to jump-start the Tiger offense.

The Tigers next routed the Midgets again in a 43-16 win in the Schuyler Tourney Championship game. Slaughter led the way with 15 points while Campbell added eight. Pickerell and Kliethermes had a bucket each in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers again took care of Knox in a 39-23 win. Buford again scored 18 with Campbell again adding 8 in the win. Hunolt chipped in four points and Aaron Blessing hounded the Eagles' guards all night long to complete the win.

SC knocked Schuyler off in the next game, 46-32. Buford had 14 while Slaughter scored 11. Ian See also added eight in the victory.

Scotland proved to be the bigger Tiger in the defeat of the Canton Tigers, 47-12. Buford again led the Tigers with 14 points. Campbell added 10 and Slaughter had nine. Kerkman, Cooley, Pickerell, Blessing, Hunolt and Kliethermes all pitched in some points in the home win.

Kirksville once again played the role of spoiler in the Junior-High season finales as they defeated SC, 29-20. Buford finished with 9 and Blessing with 5 in the loss.

The seventh graders finished with a 10-1 record, with their one slip-up coming in the very last game of the season. The future though, looks bright for the Scotland County basketball program.
