Putnam County Rallies to Beat Lady Tigers 38-36

After trailing most of the contest, Scotland County pulled ahead late in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's home game versus Putnam County, only to have the Lady Midgets rally in the final minutes to post the 38-36 win over the Lady Tigers.
Scotland County struggled on offense in the opening quarter, managing just one field goal by Cali Holt and a pair of free throws from Jessica Morrow to trail 7-4.
Morrow converted on a pair of buckets in the paint in the second period and Courtney Jackson and Kiley Frazier each added field goals as the Lady Tigers upped the scoring output. Unfortunately for SCR-I, the Midgets matched them point for point to maintain a 21-18 lead at the half.
Scotland County took its first lead of the night with 3:51 left in the third quarter when Hailey Dial connected on a jumper to make the score 26-25. Putnam County responded with a 7-0 run to retake the lead.
Trailing by four to open the fourth period, SCR-I used baskets by Frazier and Megan Creek to knot the score at 32-32. A pair of free throws by Holt put SCR-I on top before Dial scored in the paint to extend the lead to 36-33 with 2:32 left to play.
Putnam County scored the game's final five points to pull out the 38-36 win.
Scotland County (4-3, 0-2) was led in scoring by Holt and Morrow with nine points each. Samantha Shipley led Putnam County (5-1, 3-0) with 12 points and Katie Ryals added nine points.
