Lady Tigers Hold Off Knox County for 48-46 Win
Just nights after seeing a key conference game slip away in the final minutes, the Scotland County Lady Tigers buckled down in the fourth quarter of Friday night's game versus Knox County to insure it wouldn't happen again. SCR-I held off a late surge by the Lady Eagles to prevail 48-46.
Scotland County made several clutch free throws down the stretch, going 5-6 from the free throw line in the final minutes to hold on for the two point win.
SCR-I's trademark defense took center stage early. Knox County was held to just two field goals in the opening eight minutes as the Lady Tigers led 9-6.
Both teams picked up the offense in the second quarter. Megan Creek and Jessica Morrow combined for 12 of Scotland County's 15 points in the period as Scotland County pushed the margin to 24-20 at the intermission.
Knox County battled back in the third period behind three pointers from Taylor Lincoln and Hannah Strange, cutting the Lady Tigers lead to 38-37 despite another strong scoring performance by Creek.
Hailey Dial converted a three-point play and Cali Holt and Courtney Jackson were perfect from the free throw line in the fourth period as SCR-I held on for the Tri-Rivers Conference win, outscoring Knox County 11-10 in the final eight minutes.
Creek finished with 14 points to lead all scorers. Jessica Morrow added 11 points for SCR-I, which improved to 5-3 on the year and 1-2 in the TRC. Knox County (1-4, 0-3) was led in scoring by Hannah Strange with 12 points.
