Lady Tigers Mash Marion County in District Opener
Randi Slaughter legs out a bunt single as Megan Creek heads home to score a run in SCR-I's win over Marion County in the softball district opener on October 5th.
It took a little while for the offense to get rolling Wednesday night in Canton, but Scotland County's bats came to life to plate nine runs versus Marion County in the opener of the Class 1 District 11 Tournament.
One tally would have been enough thanks to the dominating pitching performance of Megan Creek. The junior did not allow a runner past second base until the final inning of the shutout performance. Creek allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out 13 to help insure her team would play at least one more game.
Creek got the offense rolling in the bottom of the third inning when she crushed a two-out triple over the head of the center fielder. Randi Slaughter delivered an RBI single and she came around to score on a RBI triple off the bat of Bethany Rader to make it 2-0.
Katie Howard cracks a RBI base hit versus Marion County. The junior right fielder drove in two runs in the win.
Scotland County tacked on three tallies in the fourth. Loren Smith led off with a base hit. Hailey Dial followed with a single before Katie Howard drove in a run with a base hit. Cali Holt provided a sacrifice fly to plate Dial before the final run came in on an RBI ground out by Creek making it 5-0.
Rader walked to start the fifth inning. After Brianna Priebe reached on an error, Loren Smith loaded the bases with a single. Rader came in to score on a RBI ground out by Howard that pushed the advantage to 6-0.
Scotland County continued to add to the score with a big sixth inning. Elizabeth Duzan walked to start the frame. Creek followed with a base hit. Both runners moved up on a double steal before Shaye Wright delivered a two-run double down the third base line. Wright scored on a base hit by Courtney Jackson that made it 9-0.
Loren Smith continues to swing a hot bat for the Lady Tigers. She went 3-4 on the night and has six hits in her last seven at bats. Creek went 2-4 and Katie Howard was 1-4 with 2 RBIs.
