SCR-I Rally Saves Softball Seniors' Night
The umpire signals home run as Megan Creek and Bethany Rader round the bases after Rader's shot over the fence.
Canton appeared poised to spoil Scotland County's softball home finale on Thursday night before late rally helped the Lady Tigers celebrate senior night in Memphis in style.
Traditionally the school's seniors are honored prior to the final home game, but the festivities were scheduled following the contest, leaving a cloud over the event when Canton jumped on top of SCR-I 7-0 in the top of the third inning.
But SCR-I came storming back on a night that saw both teams battle the extreme windy conditions. Courtney Jackson walked with one out in the third. Elizabeth Duzan followed with a base hit before Megan Creek reached on an error to drive in Jackson. After Randi Slaughter loaded the bases with a bunt hit, Bethany Rader cleared them with a double off the fence to make it 7-4. Loren Smith reached on an error to plate Rader before Cali Holt delivered an RBI single to make the score 7-6.
The two teams each added a single run in the fourth inning before Scotland County completed the comeback in the bottom of the fifth in grand style.
Scotland County sent 10 batters to the plate, started by Hailey Dial with a single. After Kiley Frazier was hit by a pitch, Holt reached on an error to drive in Dial and tie the game at 8-8. Duzan doubled in two more runs. After Creek reached on an error, Rader capped off the rally with a three-run home run to make the score 13-8.
Rader notched the victory on the mound in relief of Creek. She went 4 1/3 innings, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and a hits batsman while striking out two.
Duzan went 3-3 including a double and a triple, with three runs scored to lead the offense. Rader was 2-3 with 6 RBIs.
Scotland County improved to 11-5 on the season with the win.
