Lady Tigers Suffer Conference Loss to Putnam County
Bethany Rader watches as her homerun ball heads toward the centerfield fence during Thursday's game versus Putnam County.
Putnam County brought its bats to town Thursday night and SCR-I aided the cause with some costly errors as the Lady Midgets knocked off SCR-I 9-4.
A walk and a pair of errors helped Putnam County pull ahead 2-0 in the top of the first inning.
Scotland County ran itself out of a chance to tie or pull ahead in the bottom of the frame. A caught stealing erased a lead off hit. Randi Slaughter followed with a single. Back to back hits by Brianna Priebe and Loren Smith made it 2-1.
The Lady Midgets stood tall in the top of the third, tallying four runs on a walk and four hits off starter Megan Creek to push the margin to 6-1.
Putnam tacked on single tallies in the fourth and fifth to extend the lead to 8-1.
Bethany Rader pulled the Lady Tigers within striking distance when she crushed a three-run homer over the centerfield fence to cut the deficit to 8-4.
The Lady Midgets got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth when a two-out error kept the inning alive.
Claire Shannan walked and Elizabeth Duzan followed with a base hit but the Midgets worked out of the jam in the sixth and went on to seal the 9-4 win.
Creek took the loss on the mound, allowing nine runs, five earned, on 9 hits while walking four. The junior struck out four.
She went 2-4 at the plate, Slaughter was 2-4 and Duzan was 2-3. Rader had a pair of hits including the home run.
SCR-I dropped to 7-4 on the year.
