Lady Tigers Lay Waste to Wildcats in 15-4 Wipeout

Either solid pitching or timely hitting alone are generally enough to lead to success for a softball team. On Thursday night in Novinger, Scotland County put both facets of its game on display, pounding the Wildcats by a final score of 15-4 to remain unbeaten on the season.

The onslaught started with the first at bat when shortstop Megan Creek led off the contest with a home run. Randi Slaughter followed with a base hit and came around to score on an RBI single by Brianna Priebe. An RBI base hit by Hailey Dial made it 3-0.

SCR-I tacked on two more tallies in the second inning. Katie Howard started the inning with a triple. She scored on a ground out by Elizabeth Duzan. With two outs, Slaughter reached on an error. Bethany Rader drove her home with a base hit to push the lead to 5-0.

The bats continued to carry the load for the Lady Tigers in the next frame. Loren Smith led off with a base hit. A walk to Courtney Jackson and a hit by Howard loaded the bases. Creek delivered a two-run single to extend the margin to 7-0.

The Lady Tigers scored twice in the fifth inning. Walks to Duzan, Creek and Slaughter loaded the bases with two outs for Rader. She delivered a two-run single to make the score 9-0.

Novinger was not enjoying any success at the plate. Rader held the Wildcats hitless through four plus innings. The home team finally got on the board with a lone run in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 9-1.

Scotland County capped off the big night at the plate by batting around in the top of the seventh. A pair of Novinger errors opened the door for the big inning. Creek capped off a huge night at the plate with a two run single. Slaughter and Smith also delivered RBI base hits to push the lead to 15-2.

Novinger tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't nearly enough as SCR-I improved to 4-0 with the 15-4 win.

Rader improved to 2-0 on the mound. She allowed four runs, two earned, on three hits. The sophomore walked three and hit a batter while striking out seven over seven innings of work.

Creek had a season-high five RBIs, going 3-4 with a home run and three runs scored. Slaughter continued her solid start to her freshman year, going 2-4 at the plate with three runs scored. Rader helped her own cause with a 3-4 night at the plate. She drove in three runs. Smith and Howard both went 2-5 in the game that featured 14 SCR-I hits.
