100 Golfers Compete in Annual Father's Day Tournament
Exactly 100 participants took part in two shifts at Timber Ridge Golf Course as dads were honored during the annual Father's Day Golf Tournament sponsored by the Memphis Democrat.
The morning tournament featured 29 two-man teams teeing off at 8 a.m. The afternoon round had 21 teams.
The opening round championship went to a father and son-in-law team. Kevin Fromm and Derek Weber shot 12-under par to finish first. Mark and Mike Drummond were two strokes off the pace, finishing with a 58, followed by a three-way tie for third with scores of 60. Dave and Marcus Shalley won the tie breaker to finish third with fourth place going to Ken McMinn and Ryan Robinson.
First place in the A flight went to Mike Frazier and Kyle Lister. They won the tie breaker between four teams that all finished with scores of 64, which was four-under par. Second place went to Jared Drummond and Bob Newman followed by Doug Shalley and Colby Brown in third and Lynn Riney and Laddie Briscoe on fourth.
The father-son team of Brett and Jacob Brewer topped the B flight, winning a tiebreaker over Bob Courtright and Chris Feeney. Both teams were two-under par. Bob and Tyler Henselman were third, one off that pace with a score of 67. Andy Mallett and Jason Small took fourth place, winning a tie breaker over three other teams that finished at even par with scores of 68.
Donnie Middleton and Frank Parson topped the C flight with a score of 69. Gary Dial and Brian Dial won a tie breaker to finish second ahead of Michael and Brandon Garnett with scores of 70. Gary and Barry Young finished fourth with a score of 74.
The afternoon tournament featured just three flights.
The team of Stewart and Turner claimed the championship flight with a 13-under-par round of 55. Dave Shalley and Mark Drummond took second with a score of 57 followed by Chris Hunt and Chase Moore (58) and Marcus Shalley and Corvin Drummond (61).
The A flight featured a four-way tie for first with scores of 65. Steve Simpson and Andy Mallett won the tie breaker. Doug Shalley and Kyle Lister were second followed by the team of Dixson and Dixson in third and Robbie Miller and mike Frazier in fourth.
Colby Brown and Matt Wickert won the tie breaker over the team of Kevin Small and Wischmeir. Jared and Mike Drummond were one stroke off the pace to take third with a 69 followed by Kyle and Jared Shelley in fourth with a 70.
