Campus Bowl Players Honored at Awards Reception
The Scotland County R-1 Campus Bowl teams completed their season with a reception and players vs. faculty competitions. Emily Ebeling, Chris Smeltser, Rachel Duzan, Renay Friendshuh, and Joshua Gerber competed in the junior high match against faculty members Denice Blaine, Sean Reynolds, Darbee Wellman, and Kara Hamlin. Varsity players, Augusta Purvis, Joshua Keller, Samantha Tobler, Thomas Shannan, Brandon Monroe, and Morgan Carleton competed against faculty members Ryan Anderson, Greg Wilson, and retired teachers, Sam and Sheila Berkowitz. Barbara Campbell served as moderator for both games.
In the spirit of both competition and light-hearted fun, the junior high and Varsity Campus Bowl teams both came out victorious over the faculty teams.
Following the games awards were presented to all the players for their participation and individual achievements during the 2010-2011 season. Joshua Keller received an award for being named to the 2nd Team All-Conference Team and Thomas Shannan received the highest achievement of being named Captain of the 1st Team All-Conference Team.
Four plaques were handed out, two to the Most Valuable Player for each team and two to the Most Improved player for each team. Chris Smeltser was named MVP for the Jr. High team and Emily Ebeling was named Most Improved Player for the Jr. High team. Thomas Shannan was awarded the MVP plaque for the varsity team and Augusta Purvis was named the Most Improved player for the varsity team.
Recognition was also given to senior Augusta Purvis for her years of dedication to the Campus Bowl Teams. Augusta began her campus bowl participation during her 6th grade year and has been a consistent and positive influence throughout her Jr. High and High School years. She will be attending Brigham Young University in Idaho where she is going to major in chemistry.
