Dial Closes Out Golf Career at State Championships
Scotland County's Kasey Dial closed out his high school golf career at Sedalia Country Club on May 16th and 17th for the Class 1 State Golf Championship. The senior shot a 190 over the two days to finish 73rd.
David Baldwin of Sacred Heart won the individual state title and led his team to a state championship as well. He edged teammate Jared Dey by one stroke, finishing the 36 holes with a score of 151, which was 11-over par. Zane Betz of Van Buren (153) was third followed by Tyler Hamilton of Marceline and Dalton Wolfe of Linn, who tied for fourth with a 154.
Rounding out the top 10 were Garrett Dollins of New Covenant Academy and Jacob Miller of Silex, tied for sixth with a 155; John Beykirch of Sacred Heart with a 157; and teammates Isaac Garber and Ethan Koechner of Tipton with rounds of 159.
Dial shot a 97 on the opening day, before moving up the leader board with a final round score of 93. As a junior, Dial finished tied for 53rd at state with a score of 186.
La Plata teammates Dalton Smith and Jake Waddle finished tied for 12th with scores of 163.
The Bulldogs had to settle for fourth overall in the team division with a score of 658. Scared Heart was first with a team total of 625. Linn took home second place with a score of 652, one stroke better than third place Tipton.
Rounding out the team scores were Belle (684), St. Vincent (693), Canton (705), St. Mary's (718) and Maysville (733).
