Shannan Tosses No Hitter as Tigers Continue Winning Ways

Ben Shannan has been nearly unhittable all season long on the mound for Scotland County, but the junior hurler was close to perfect on Friday night in Queen City as he tossed a no hitter to allow the Tigers to extend their winning streak to nine games.

Shannan faced just two over the minimum number of batters as he breezed through the Rams batters en route to the 8-0 victory. A first inning walk was erased when Drew Miller gunned down the runner at second base trying to steal. The only other base runners came courtesy of an error in the third inning and a sixth inning walk.

SCR-I broke through first in a pitcher's duel, pulling ahead 1-0 in the top of the fourth inning. Sabe Sears doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Shannan.

The Tigers blew the game open in the fifth, batting around en route to scoring five runs. Rod Sears started the rally, reaching base on an error. Harley Stone singled. The wheels came off for the Rams with two outs, as a pair of errors opened the door for the big inning. Shannan, Cordie Kigar and Andrew Mathes delivered RBI singles to push the lead to 6-0.

Scotland County tacked on a couple insurance runs in the seventh inning when Miller connected on a homerun. Brock Bondurant was hit by a pitch and came in to score on an RBI hit by Mathes.

That was more than enough scoring for Shannan, who never allowed a runner past second base. He walked two and struck out 14 in recording the shutout.

The Tigers improved to 9-2 on the year.
