Dial Headed Back to State Golf Championships
The Missouri State High School Activities Association added an extra hurdle for student athletes to clear to make it to the state golf championships in 2011, but Scotland County senior Kasey Dial would not be denied.
Dial carded a round of 85 to finish among the top 12 individual golfers at the Class 1 Sectional 2 tournament held at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton on Thursday, May 5th.
La Plata High School won the team sectional championship with a round of 324 and Canton earned second place with a team score of 343 to advance to state.
Tyler Hamilton of Marceline shot a three over par 75 to win the tournament. Weston Canterbury of Cairo, and Paden John of Westran tied for second with scores of 76. Rockne DeCoster of Canton and Weston Smith of La Plata shot rounds of 78 to tie for fourth place.
Rounding out the top 10 were Derek Tribble of Putnam County (80), Jake Waddle of La Plata (80), Timothy Jordan of Marceline (82), Thomas Smith of Silex (82) and tied for 10th were Grant Gregory of La Plata (83), Drew Horner of Canton (83), Garrett Serbin of Canton (83), Dalton Smith of La Plata (83).
The remaining state qualifiers included Dalton Branstetter of Louisiana (84), Jacob Miller of Silex (84), Benjamin Werr of South Shelby (84), Dial of Scotland County (85), Gregory Pitzer of Louisiana (86), Brendan Ross of Louisiana (86), and Joseph Weimer of Salisbury (86).
The top two teams at sectionals qualify for state as well as the top 12 individuals (not on the two qualifying teams).
