Dial Advances to Golf Sectionals in Bid to Return to State Tourney
Scotland County golfer Kasey Dial took the first step in returning to the Missouri Class 1 state tournament this spring with a top 15 finish at the District 4 Tournament held in Kirksville on April 29th.
Dial shot a 96 in the 18-hole event held at the Kirksville Country Club, which was good enough for 11th place.
LaPlata took the team title with a score of 356, edging out runner-up Marceline by four strokes. Both teams will advance to the sectional event at Fulton.
Canton shot a 371 followed by Putnam County (383), Salisbury (386), Cairo (408), South Shelby (419) and Schuyler County (446).
Scotland County shot a 443. Levi Woollums finished 38th overall with a 114. Taylor Rader shot a 116 while Drew Miller carded a 117 and Andrew Mathes finished with a 136.
Paden John of Westran was the individual medalist for the event, finishing with a score of 78 on the par 71 course. There was a three-way tie for runner-up honors with La Plata's Grant Gregory and Marceline's Tyler Hamilton and Kenneth Terry all carding rounds of 86.
The top 15 individual scores (excluding players from the two district winning teams) advance to the sectional event.
Joining John on this list were Garrett Serbin of Canton (89), Keaton Hixenbaugh of Putnam County (89) Drew Horner of Canton (91), Benjamin Werr of South Shelby (91), Joseph Weimer (92) and Wyatt Austin (92) of Salisbury, Derek Tribble of Putnam County (94), Rockne DeCoster (95) and Zach Dye (96) of Canton, Dial, Aaron Barratt of Cairo (97) Nathan Werner of Schuyler County (97), Weston Canterbury of Cairo (98) and Cody Quint of Putnam County (98).
All-District honors went to John, Gregory, Hamilton, Terry, Jake Waddle of LaPlata (87), Timothy Jordan of Marceline (87), Serbin, Hixenbaugh, Dalton Smith of La Plata (90), Horner, Weimer, Austin, Smith and Tribble.
