SCR-I Win Streak Reaches Eight With 3-1 Victory Over Canton
After leaning on the bats to best Putnam County days earlier, Scotland County relied on the right arm of one its top pitchers Monday night as the Tigers prevailed 3-1 in a pitcher's duel.
Ben Shannan allowed only one unearned run as Scotland County won its eighth straight game.
Dakota Wells singled and moved into scoring position on an error in the top of the third inning. Sabe Sears followed with a base hit and both runners scored on a double by Drew Miller. Miller scored on an error to make it 3-0.
Canton trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the inning taking advantage of a pair of SCR-I fielding errors. But Shannan worked out of a bases loaded jam to preserve the lead.
The junior hurler again worked out of trouble in the fourth inning, stranding runners at second and third before coasting through the final two frames to secure the victory.
SCR-I left the bases loaded in the fourth inning but could not add to the lead.
Shannan allowed one unearned run in seven innings of work. He limited Canton to just three hits while walking four and hitting one batter. He recorded 11 strike outs.
Sabe Sears went 2-3 at the plate to lead the offense, that was held to just five hits on the night. Miller had the key 2 RBI double, finishing 1-3 in the game. Wells and Andrew Mathes had the other hits.
Scotland County improved to 8-2 on the year with the victory, avenging an early season loss to Canton.
