UNHITTABLE -Shannan Shuts Down Milan Bats in 4-0 Victory to Extend Tigers Winning Streak to Six
Ben Shannan was nearly unhittable on Monday night before running into trouble in the seventh inning. The junior hurler worked out of a bases-loaded jam in Milan's final at bat to complete the shutout and extend Scotland County's winning streak to six games with a 4-0 win over the Wildcats.
Scotland County took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Sabe Sears led off with a base on balls. He stole second base and advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt. Sears scored on an RBI groundout by Brock Bondurant.
That lone tally looked like it would be more than enough as Shannan cruised through the Milan lineup.
After giving up a leadoff single in the top of the first, the junior pitcher retired 15 straight batters before allowing a one-out hit in the sixth inning.
SCR-I put some insurance on the board with a big sixth inning. Shannan led off with a single. He stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A sacrifice fly by Andrew Mathes made the score 2-0. With two outs, Rod Sears doubled. After a walk to Harley Stone, Dakota Wells drove in both runners with a base hit to make the score 4-0.
Milan loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh. But Shannan struck out the final two batters to complete the shutout. He allowed five hits and one walk in seven innings of work while striking out 14.
Wells was 1-2 at the plate with a walk and two RBI. Mathes was 1-2 with a double and an RBI. Sabe Sears was 2-3 with a run scored.
The Tigers improved to 6-2 on the season.
