Battered Lady Tigers Rally For Win On Senior Night

Coach Jaryt Hunziker was not faced with the difficult decision of which of his six seniors to start on Friday night's regular season finale in Memphis, but the SCR-I leader probably would have preferred that tough spot as opposed to the more difficult position a late rash of injuries have forced the team into.

Even minus three starters, the Lady Tigers defended their home court for the final time in the 2010-11 season with a 34-27 victory over Schuyler County.

SCR-I lost senior Amy Duley to a season-ending injury, a night after losing junior point guard Cali Holt to a similar calamity. Senior center Jamie Shaw joined the duo on the bench in street clothes after suffering a knee injury of her own on Tuesday night versus Putnam County. Preliminary reports were she would be available for district play this week.

The new starting line-up of seniors Sklyer Alderton, Ashley Tague, Aimee Dale, Catie Shalley and junior Counrteny Jackson, took a little time to gel. That let Schuyler County jump out to a 14-6 lead in the first period.

Tague and Alderton connected on three pointers in the second period but that was all the scoring for the Lady Tigers who trailed 19-12 at the break.

Alderton connected from behind the arc again in the third period, but SCR-I still trailed 26-20 heading into the game's final eight minutes.

That's when Scotland County turned the tables. Tague took charge, scoring eight points down the stretch. Hailey Dial added a pair of field goals, but it proved to be the SCR-I defense that made the difference, as the Rams scored just one point in the final period to allow SCR-I to take the 34-27 win.

Tague led all scorers with 15 points as SCR-I closed out the regular season with a 16-7 record and a 7-3 mark in the Tri-Rivers Conference. Alderton added eight points. Schuyler County was led in scoring by Leza Ford with 10 points.
