Unbeaten Bulldogs Take a Bite Out of Tigers

When is the #3 ranking not high enough? Ask Scotland County fans that traveled to La Plata Thursday night and watched the state ranked Bulldogs demolish the Tigers 84-35 to remain unbeaten on the year at 18-0.

La Plata, which was ranked behind Scott County Central (17-2) and Dadeville (17-0) in the most recent Missouri Class 1 state rankings, looked like it could easily deserve the top billing after pouring in 33 points in the first period. The scoring onslaught came from every angle, as La Plata had five different players score four points or more during the hot start, including six, three pointers.

The Tigers never got on track on offense, managing just six points in the first period, to fall behind by 27 points after just eight minutes of play.

Drew Miller and Dakota Wells connected on three pointers for SCR-I in the second period, but La Plata still added to the halftime lead with a 20-10 scoring advantage.

Brock Bondurant and Kasey Dial connected from behind the arc for the Tigers in the third period but the SCR-I defense could not slow down the Bulldogs who put up another 20 point quarter to lead 73-25 and rolled on to the 84-35 victory.

Scotland County (8-10) was led in scoring by Bondurant and Andrew Mathes each with eight points. Dakota Wells finished with seven points.

La Plata (18-0) was led in scoring by Taylor Wheeler with 18 points. Peyton Swift added 17 points. Hayden Fouch and Weston Smith each scored 12 points and Birdie Buck had 11 points to give the Bulldogs five players in double digits.
