Heck Draws Local Fans to St. Louis for College Basketball Game

Miss Samantha Dianne Heck of Evansville, IN, daughter of Kenny and Debra Tague Heck of St. Charles, MO, was the main point of interest at a recent family gathering held at the Chaifetz Arena in downtown St. Louis as she gave an outstanding performance with her Evansville University Purple Aces basketball team out of Evansville, IN. Samantha is a sophomore at the University of Evansville and at the time of this game she was the top scorer for the Purple Aces with 10 ppg, top rebounder with 5.7 rpg, and top offensive rebounder with 1.5 orpg.

There were approximately 50 "Samantha fans" in attendance to watch her stellar performance vs. the St. Louis University Billikens. She recorded her first college double-double, tallying 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Aces in their exciting charge vs. the Billikens, only to lose 55-53 in OT.

Everyone was visiting about Samantha's outstanding performance during the Aces' recent games at the Omni Hotels' Classic Tournament held in Boulder, CO. After the teams two-day performance Samantha was honored with All-Tournament Honors. She broke the tournament's field-goal percentage record, shooting 43.4% ( 13 of 17) over the course of the tournament. She also made 7 of 7 shots in the team's third place win, tying the tournament's single-game field goal percentage record.

Samantha had several of her high school coaches, teachers, mentors, and classmates, along with their families, from North Callaway High School in Kingdom City in attendance at the St. Louis game, as well as numerous St. Louis friends of family members. St. Louis family members who attended were Gary and Diane Tague Gannon, Meghan Decker and friend, and Kenny and Debra Tague Heck of St. Charles.

The Tague family members who traveled from all over northeast Missouri and Kansas to watch her play were: Sherrill Tague Clatt of Gorin, Donna Tague Bailey of Kirksville, Larry and Nancy Tague Platz of Brashear, Alexandrea and Karissa Hamlin of Edina, Adam, Rita, and Mattalie Shaw of Blackburn, Brent Platz of Kansas City, Garrett and LaVeta Heck of Rutledge, and Kyle and Kellie Platz of Manhattan, KS.

A variety of activities were held during the day as Larry and Nancy Platz honored their great-nieces, Alexandrea and Karissa, with a Christmas vacation gathering by spending most of the day at the Chuck E. Cheese Pizza Parlor at St. Charles, as well as a tour of the St. Louis Zoo and Science Center, prior to meeting family members at the game. Other family members met at the home of Kenny and Debra Heck for a soup luncheon prior to the game. Several family members were overnight guests in the Heck home as Samantha was allowed to remain in St. Louis with her family and Christmas gatherings were held.

Everyone is excited about meeting in St. Louis area once again when she plays in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at the Family Arena in St. Charles beginning on March 10. Several had made plans to attend the Drake University game in Des Moines, Iowa, on February 3, but Ole Man Weather kept them at home in Missouri.
