Elusive Win Over Rams Remains Just Out of Reach for SCR-I

It was a two-possession game for what seemed like more than a dozen trips down the court Tuesday night in Queen City. Unfortunately for Scotland County fans, the Tigers were unable to eclipse a five-point deficit despite several chances late in the second half of the conference contest before the Rams put the game away late.

The game featured plenty of emotion as the rivalry often leaves the players "seeing red." But Tuesday's game took on a different color, as players from both squads wore pink wrist bands or shoelaces as part of the Pink Out theme for the night in support of breast cancer awareness.

It was the blue and white that were shining early on, as Scotland County jumped out to a first quarter lead behind six points from Harley Stone.

The Tigers defense kept Schuyler County's standout guard Tim Gorman in check in the first half. But his teammates picked up the slack in the second period. The Rams outscored SCR-I 17-9 to pull ahead 30-22 at the break.

Scotland County struggled at the free throw line in the midst of that stretch, making just 5 of 11 free throws during the run helping Schuyler County pull ahead by eight.

Drew Miller caught fire for the Tigers in the third period, scoring nine points as Scotland County trimmed the deficit to 40-35 late in the third period.

Two more scoring trips on the offensive end would have allowed the Tigers to tie or even take the lead over the formerly state ranked Rams. But SCR-I was unable to take advantage of several Schuyler County turnovers combined with defensive stops by the Tigers.

Scotland County managed just five points in the fourth period as Schuyler County put the game away down the stretch to come out on top 54-40.

Scotland County fell to 7-8 on the year and 2-3 in Tri-Rivers Conference play. Dakota Wells led the Tigers in scoring with 13 points. Stone finished with 10 points and Miller had nine. Gorman led Schuyler County with 21 points.
